Our verdict
AE Studio is a product studio that started in 2016, bootstrapped, with a machine-learning-first thesis, according to its About page. It has two halves: an applied AI business that builds AI systems for clients, and an alignment research arm that, by its account, collaborates with DARPA and Anthropic.
Companies use AE Studio to build AI products, agents, knowledge management systems and custom models. It names Azul, Alpha School, Global Shop Solutions and Blackrock Neurotech among the companies where it has shipped AI into production. It began building with large language models the year GPT-3 shipped and earlier did research on brain-computer interfaces.
The research work is what separates it from most build shops. AE argues that good applied AI requires taking alignment seriously, and its engineers move between the research and client sides.
