Our verdict
Tribe AI is an AI services firm that Jaclyn Rice Nelson and Noah Gale started in 2019. It began as a way to place contract AI talent and turned into a full services firm that builds products and projects for clients using a network of more than 500 contractors, TechCrunch reported in 2024. Its offices are in New York City; San Francisco, California; and Lisbon, Portugal (Tribe AI).
Companies hire Tribe to identify AI use cases, build them inside their own systems and stay until the work is running in production. TechCrunch named MyFitnessPal and New Relic as customers. The firm is platform-agnostic and works with AWS, Azure and Google Cloud and with models from OpenAI and Anthropic.
For a company without its own AI lab, the model gives access to experienced builders for a defined project. Tribe was bootstrapped for six years before a $3.25 million seed round in 2024, and Rice Nelson told TechCrunch that its biggest competitors are McKinsey and Accenture.
Best for
Companies that want a scoped AI build from experienced engineers without first hiring a full-time AI team.
Not ideal for
Buyers who want a large, permanent systems-integrator bench or a published rate card.

What clients and leaders say
“We have been around since 2019, long before ChatGPT and now have experience building hundreds of AI products.”
“The reality is that most companies don’t need a full-time, permanent ML team. Often what they need are a few specialists to build a technical roadmap or an initial proof of concept.”
Drawbacks
- Delivery leans on contractors from its network, which TechCrunch said keeps payroll costs low; the engineers on a second project may not be the ones from the first.
- Tribe does not publish pricing or engagement minimums.
- We found no independent client reviews beyond press coverage.
